Abstract painting by the British artist Riduan Tomkins 1941-2009. c.1977

Attended Poole School of Art, 1958–60; West of England College of Art, Bristol, 1960–2; Wimbledon School of Art, 1964–5; and the Royal College of Art, 1965–8. His work included both large and small canvases, the latter being shown in Small is Beautiful at the Angela Flowers Gallery. Tomkins had a solo exhibition at Greenwich Theatre Gallery in 1972, others including Whitechapel Art Gallery and Brunel University, Uxbridge, both 1974; Oliver Dowling Gallery in Dublin, Sable-Castelli Gallery in Toronto, Angela Flowers Gallery and Betty Parsons Gallery, New York, all 1977; and works on paper at Jordan Gallery, 1978.

His works are historically conscious, romantic, rational and decorative, combining formal observations with spiritual attitudes, which he paints in a reflective dialogue.
